Education: I attended Grand Valley State University for undergraduate, as well as graduate classes. I am certified to teach Art k-12 with an emphasis in ceramics.
Why Teach?: I chose Art teaching because it was always the most enjoyable part of my day when I was in school. It was always a warm, inviting space where I could connect all the pieces of my day. I think Art is an amazing tool to help make further connections in our daily lives. I love to paint and nature is my favorite subject. I previously taught in Allendale, Michigan at Oakwood Intermediate School. While there, I helped develop their first Fine Arts Day. For this event we brought five hundred 4th and 5th graders to downtown Grand Rapids for a day at the Symphony, GRAM, Rosa Parks Circle for ice skating and enjoyed authentic Latin food. It was a great day where students could enjoy something in the real world from each of their “Specials”.
What are you excited about in the shool year ahead at OMPS? I am so excited to be a part of OMPS’s first year. My children have attended Old Mission since preschool. I was ecstatic to hear that it would not only be staying a public school, but becoming our “dream school”.
