We would like to give a huge shout out to our very own Carolyn Mammen! She recently applied for and was awarded the Dan Wolz Clear Water Education Grant 2018! The 4th grade, in conjunction with the 5th grade students, will be sampling and testing water from the Boardman Lake and Boardman River for a comparison study of chloride concentrations and the impacts of road salt run-off on our community watershed.
The Dan Wolz Clean Water Education Grant was established in 2006 to heighten public
awareness of the career opportunities our industry has to offer, and to improve the quality and
quantity of Clean Water community education in Michigan public schools. The Michigan Water
Environment Association (MWEA) parters with Michigan Science Teachers Association (MSTA)
to identify teachers who have a great program and are in need of financial assistance to execute a
project within a curriculum focused on water environment issues.
